COMMON SENSE DAY

Common Sense Day is observed annually on November 4, since common sense is an important tool for living life. Common sense is “the applied knowledge of simple, sensible things”, such as not putting metal into microwaves or jumping into rivers without knowing what is under the water.

Did You Know…

…that Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet called Common Sense in 1776? In it, he drew out the need for independence of the 13 British colonies in North America from Britain. The pamphlet is thought to have inspired the American Revolution.

History of National Use Your Common Sense Day

Bud Bilanich, a career mentor with a reputation for focusing on being “The Common Sense Guy” created the National Use Your Common Sense Day. He’s been starred in some of the most leading TV stations and magazines, and he has written 19 books that highlight how to succeed in your life, and how the application of common sense is vital to that success. The concept of common sense was codified by Aristotle when he described the raw study of the animal mind of the five distinct sense perceptions. Then it was carried forward in the Roman interpretation which represents the concept of ideas and perceptions of the ordinary man. Within the long and twisty development and many future interpretations, common sense has come to be the knowledge of simple, sensible things. Like not placing your iPhone in the microwave to recharge it.
