In our ongoing exhibit "Tiger! Tiger!", we have a lot of important information about these big cats. For example:
What happened to the tigers? Long ago, tigers were hunted for fun by leaders, royalties, and celebrities.
How did the tigers change? They began to evolve into a unique species toward the end of the Pliocene epoch, about 3.2 million years ago.
Is the population increasing or decreasing? The global tiger population is finally increasing after more than a century of gradual decline.
Some more fun facts about the tigers:
Tigers are popular in different myths and legends all over Asia.
An estimated 3,900 tigers remain in the wild, but much more work is needed to protect this species if we are to secure its future in the wild.
